do my thing over this little funky track...
it's labour day monday. (to my american friends, that's how we spell it up here, laboUr, not labor. we also spell honor like honoUr, etc.) anyway, the official last day of summer, and shit, it's gone. i haven't done one summer thing this year. no cottage. no beach. hell, not even a swimming pool. no campfire. no canoe. not even a picnic. oh well, i can't really complain, i've been keeping busy, working on a gang of stuff, but still, it would be nice to get away, even for a day or two, and just... pause.
my flatmate and i were joking around last week about winter coming, and how we need to start accepting resumes and applications for temporary boy/girlfriends. my ad would read something like this (and i want to make this very clear to a certain person who is likely to read this and become very upset with me -- THIS IS A JOKE!):
*********
winter is coming.
wanted:
temporary girlfriend.
6 month contract (october-march).
must be:
decent looking (7-up),
into good music (gangsta rap and psychedelic rock),
good movies (art-films, 80's crap, and kung fu),
and have at least semi-cool friends,
who won't annoy me when we go out.
must not be:
ugly,
stupid,
super-religious,
into top-40 radio,
hollywood movies,
and into drinking coolers and being loud
with your annoying cheerleader friends.
applications can be sent to me via email.
interviews will be taking place during the month of september.
this is a volunteer position.
i am an equal opportunity employer.
thank you,

oh yes, another plus, girls who smoke...

this is blake...

he just called me a dirtbag.
he's got a new album out, but the link he sent me doesn't work.
he rambles here.
i managed to go through the entire day on saturday without smoking one cigarette.
i want to thank all of you who've sent me your thoughts and well wishes for my mom. she had her operation on tuesday, and is now at home recovering. it was her birthday on friday. i went out to visit with my brother, his wife, and my nephew. i think having her baby grandson around helped her out a bit. you can't help but feel good around him. this kid is powerful.
do you know the jungle brothers?

of course you do. anyway, most hip-hop heads have long since forgotten they existed, and i haven't even kept with what they've been doing the last few years. i'm pretty sure they're living up to their name and still active in the jungle/drum and bass scene, playing raves in europe or whatever, but i really don't know.
anyway, a few years they put a song called "freakin' you," which i absolutely love. makes me feel good when i listen to it. i think it was produced by one of the guys from the propellerheads. a bit of a 60's surf-rock thing, mixed with electronic vibes and hip-hop. i don't know what to call it, but i like it, a lot.
speaking of the j.beez, can somebody hook me up with a copy of j.beez with tha remedy? i lost mine...

i know it's been talked about to death, so i'm not really going to get into it, but man, i'm really feeling kanye's little outburst the other night. i don't like everything about this cat, and yeah, he is hella arrogant and whatever, but that was balls right there. you could see austin powers trying to keep it together beside him.

so i'm working on some new songs right now, the boys have got a few tracks together, and now it's up to me to come up with some words to fit the mood. i'm working on one about a recent situation, it's not anywhere near finished, but i thought share what i have so far...
i'm heading out that door,
don't know which way i might go,
don't wait up, but leave the light on,
'cause sometimes you never know,
don't ask me to explain it,
the rules to this fools game,
no one knows, so who can say it,
why we sometimes walk away,
don't ask me about tomorrow,
from my future i can't borrow,
maybe things won't be so hard, babe,
when i'm far away...
i was working the other night, and a friend of mine was sitting on the patio. i walked up to her table, asked if anyone needed drinks. she asked me if i had looked at the sky yet that day. i said no. we both looked up. the clouds, they were some of the most beautiful clouds i had ever seen in my life, against a perfectly clear, dark, deep, night sky. i bought her next drink for her. thank you.
okay, back to work,
i hope you're all doing well out there,
ryan
